The diving
Dhangethi got some of the best diving of the entire Maldives, and a lot of the dives sites around the island are world known. It’s the only region in the Maldives where Manta Rays and whalesharks aren’t seasonal.

The most famous is Kudha Rah Thila. It’s a small mountain like pinnacle in the Middle of the Dhigurah & Dhangethi Channel. Which is a marine protected dive site and world class dive site just 20min Boat ride. One of the most dived dive sites in the Maldives and a world-famous dive. Where the fish life and formation of the reef is stunning.

Kudhimaa Wreck, a 50m cargo ship resting on a sandy bottom at around 30 meters, lies next to Centara Grand Island Resort. Sunk in 1998, it already hosts good coral growth and a wide variety of species. Nurse sharks, batfish, stonefish, lionfish, and moray eels are permanent residents around the wreck.

Five Rocks is formed by a pinnacle split into five pieces over centuries. These “rocks” range from 12m to 40m at the sandy bottom. Overhangs and sweeping currents create ideal conditions for vibrant corals, reef fish, and white tip reef sharks. Five Rocks is also a favorite among photographers for its unique underwater scenery.

Medium in size but rich in beauty, Dhangethi lies 87 km from Malé — about 2 hours by speedboat. Known as “the heart of diving in the Maldives,” it boasts vibrant marine life, stunning corals, and a peaceful village with friendly locals. The island is small enough to explore in a short walk. Stroll down the shopping street, catch the sunset, and enjoy the relaxed island vibe. Measuring just 1 km long and 350 meters wide, Dhangethi has a population of 1200, though fewer than 500 actually live on the island. Its narrow streets and colorful houses create a unique, tranquil atmosphere.
